Spanish Fort Plans 10-Field Baseball Complex

The City of Spanish Fort has announced its intent to build a new baseball complex within the Eastern Shore Center’s Cooperative Improvement District, FOX10 News reports. This comes after the city convinced the state legislature to change the law, allowing for the expansion of these districts. The new baseball fields are to meet the needs of local teams of children aged 8-15 to include two 300-ft fields. It is also expected to attract regional tournaments. The $7-million project would address the need for multiage baseball facilities while providing more connectivity from the Eastern Shore Center to Highway 31 and beyond, to include a proposed Baldwin Rural Area Transportation Service bus terminal. The engineering plans for the 56 acres have been published and show a 10-field complex just east of the Eastern Shore Lanes bowling alley and amusement complex. In addition, there would be a miracle field, concessions and parking for 845 vehicles.
