C Spire Bringing Fiber to Mobile County

C Spire Fiber recently announced it is accepting consumer preorders and has begun construction for its fiber-optic gigabit-speed internet access and related services in the unincorporated area of Mobile County. The broadband division of Ridgeland, Mississippi-based C Spire Inc. started construction on the network last month and has plans to connect thousands of homes in the area over the next several months, with service to begin this summer. It said it is also “actively seeking interest from other Alabama communities and towns seeking more reliable and faster broadband internet service” based on a crowdsourcing model here. In addition to the internet, it will offer its “Smart WiFi powered by Plume,” “Home Protection Plan” and digital home phone service. The announcement follows the company’s acquisition of Mobile-based Harbor Communications and its existing fiber network (Harbor Communications Acquired).
