Fairhope Contracts For New Well, System

FAIRHOPE, Ala. — Fairhope plans to expand its water system to add 33% to the municipal capacity to meet growing demands, Gulf Coast Media reported. The Fairhope City Council has accepted a bid from The Creel Co. of Mobile to add a new well, pump and treatment building at Water Treatment Plant 3 for $7. million. Jason Langley, water and sewer superintendent, said the new well will increase the city’s water capacity by approximately 2.8 million gallons a day. He added that the new well and system will produce approximately 2,800 gallons of water a minute. While weather conditions have reduced demands from June, when the council declared a water emergency, Langley said the city still needs to increase capacity. Department officials are also looking at plans to add another well.
