Murrill Honored For Preserving Heritage

The Mobile County Health Department’s Health Equity Office (HEO) recently honored Sharon Murrill, Alabama Power Co. community relations manager, as part of its celebration of Women’s History Month (March). This year’s theme was “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories,” and Murrill was named a “community champion who has long worked to give a voice to the voiceless.” Murrill has lived in Mobile for 28 years and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Alabama. She has held various leadership positions at Alabama Power in her 35 years at the company. She became community relations manager for West Mobile and South Mobile County approximately four years ago. She also serves as vice president of the Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce (which named her Citizen of the Year last year), president of the Semmes Chamber of Commerce and member of the Bayou La Batre and Dauphin Island chamber boards. HEO said it first partnered with Murrill at its first food drive in Bayou La Batre, and she “has worked countless hours in the community, volunteering and doing outreach,” it added.
