Saraland Approves Sewer Rate Increase

Saraland will raise its residents’ sewer rates by 5% beginning November 1, Call News reports. The sewer rate minimum bill increases from $17.55 to $18.43, and usage over minimum increases from $5.21 to $5.47 per 1,000 gal. The first sewer rate increase since 2018, it was done to raise funds for the relining of old sewer lines with fiberglass to prevent infiltration of storm water. It is also upgrading its 38 pump stations with emergency generators. Employee raises, inflation, equipment upgrades and expanding sewer lines (along Celeste Road) are among other factors Saraland Water & Sewer Service cited for the increase.
