Oyster Harvest On Track To Double From Last Year

AL.com recently reported that Alabama’s wild oyster harvest, which the Marine Resources Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources partially ended December 15, is expected to be double that of last year, which had been the biggest since 2013-2014. The department said harvesters had brought in 20,311 sacks as of December 11, already greatly exceeding the 11,258 brought in last season. While the seasonwas opened much earlier than it was in 2019, “a more finely calibrated grid system for openings and closures” allowed the division to be more selective and accurate in its zone availability. Several thousand more sacks are expected to be brought in over the next couple of weeks before the complete close of the season to bring the total to 22,000-23,000.
