Foley Railroad Museum Barin Field Exhibit Open

The Foley Railroad Museum opened an exhibit focusing on Foley’s role in World War II (WWII) on December 5. The permanent exhibit focuses on Barin Field, which opened on December 5, 1942, as a training base for U.S. Navy aviators in WWII and, later, the Korean War. The display includes photographs of Navy training at Barin Field, descriptions of the base and uniforms, equipment and other artifacts from Barin Field and the Navy during the period when it was an active base. Many of the items were provided by local descendants of Barin Field personnel. The field, which remains in use as a Navy practice site, has also been an auxiliary training center for the Pensacola Naval Air Station. The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The museum plans additional exhibits commemorating Barin Field, Foley’s involvement in World War II and the community’s history. Those who want more information or wish to loan or provide material for an exhibit may contact Guy Busby, Foley marketing communications manager, at email or phone: 251-504-3759.
