One Mile Creek Cleanup Scheduled

Nonprofit Mobile Baykeeper is hosting a cleanup near One Mile Creek on November 13 at 9-11 a.m. to rally support for its Reduce The Use campaign, which aims to reduce single-use plastics in Downtown Mobile in an effort to ensure cleaner waterways. The event, beginning at 96 Marion Street (on the corner of Marion and Lawrence streets) is geared toward employees and owners of downtown businesses and restaurants, but others are also encouraged to attend. The initiative is part of a “Reduce the Use” federal grant the organization received from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Businesses that join the program will have their brand promoted by Mobile Baykeeper. The goal is to draw enough people to each business that the cost of moving away from single-use plastics will be offset by the surplus of new customers and foot traffic. Mobile Baykeeper is working in conjunction with the City of Mobile, the Downtown Mobile Alliance and Plastic Free Gulf Coast on the campaign. The grant is part of the broader “Can It Y’all” Cleanup Challenge. Those interested are asked to sign up by contacting Ryann Wilcoxon at email.
