Mobile Act Celebrates First Graduating Glass

On May 9, White-Spunner Construction celebrated the commencement of the Mobile Academy of Craft Training’s (ACT) first graduating class. The inaugural class boasted 25 students from Mobile and Baldwin county public schools—students who White-Spunner said would not have the chance to work for area contractors without training from ACT and support from members of the Alabama State Department of Education and Alabama Industrial Training. During ACT training and after graduation, students have the opportunity to pursue internship and job opportunities with ACT partner companies across a variety of market sectors. White-Spunner and ACT invite all trades, contractors and construction companies to participate. Of the 30 seniors enrolled at the academy in its first year, 25 students accepted positions with area contractors in industries including electrical, HVAC and construction. The five students who did not accept positions in the contracting industry either chose to attend college or are pursuing work elsewhere. More than 100 students are expected to graduate and contribute to the local workforce within the next five years.
