Baldwin Preparatory Academy Work On Schedule

Gulf Coast Media recently reported on the construction progress of the new Baldwin Preparatory Academy, the career technology school scheduled to open in August 2024 at 33243 State Highway 59 in Loxley. Offering a variety of courses, including engine repair, construction, welding, aviation, HVAC/plumbing and electrical, mechatronics engineering, health sciences, cybersecurity, graphic design, teaching, culinary arts, cosmetology and barbering, the school is designed to combine academics and on-the-job experience for students in a career field of their choice. Baldwin County Public Schools Superintendent Eddie Tyler said the district opened applications for the school this month and has already received more than 1,000 from interested students across Baldwin County. Students will be considered based on a variety of factors such as grade point average and disciplinary record. Tyler added that construction on the $100-million school is on schedule and expected to be completed in time for the next school year. Meant to bridge the gap between high school and college or the workforce, it is currently only accepting children from within Baldwin County, but Tyler hopes it will eventually have enough space to accept interested students from surrounding counties.
