Contractor’s College Launches

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced on July 8 that the City of Mobile and Bishop State Community College have partnered to create a Contractor’s College to help local small businesses compete for, receive and manage public contracts. Considered well-established in workforce development, Stimpson said, the Bishop State will “be teaching valuable job skills with direct input from city department leaders who regularly oversee the awarding and implementation of public contracts.” The city will also use federally allocated funds to offer Contractor’s College programming to small business owners from Mobile with an emphasis on those who qualify as disadvantaged business enterprises. The first class of the Contractor’s College will begin on July 20 and run through late January 2022. Approximately 20 participants from various businesses will be able to attend, and scholarships are available to cover tuition. Applications are available here.
