DISL Ocean STEM Workshop Coming Up

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) is hosting a hands-on workshop addressing various physical and biological characteristics of ocean environments such as sound, currents and ocean bathymetry by exploring common equipment, tools and sensors on July 20-24 at DISL on Dauphin Island. Participants will conduct short classroom-suitable science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities and build a few simple tools and sensors (e.g., current drifters, underwater microphones, remotely operated vehicles and temperature profiling floats). These and other tools will be deployed in local waters, and DISL scientists will speak about how they use them in their research. The workshop is free for active educators in Alabama and Mississippi via the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium.
