Gulf Shores Approves $1.6 Million For Schools

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Gulf Shores is planning a new high school on 200 acres of city-owned property near the Foley Beach Express called “The Next Wave,” AL.com reports. The Gulf Shores City Council approved two contracts totaling nearly $1.3 million for design and cost estimates for the project: $650,000 to Volkert, Inc., for project management services for the entire project, and $644,400 to Goodwyn Mills Cawood to prepare the schematic drawings, detailed cost estimates and phasing recommendations. Additionally, a $355,900 contract for Walcott Adams Verneuille to prepare design, construction and bid documents for an eight-classroom addition at the existing Gulf Shores Elementary School was approved. The new elementary school additions are to be completed by August 2023, and the new high school is to be built by August 2025.
