ST. Michael Students Win Six Statewide Awards

The Model United Nations (UN) Team of St. Michael Catholic High School in Fairhope recently won six awards (the second most among participating schools) at the 16th Annual University of Alabama Model UN Conference in Tuscaloosa. The team competed against more than 100 delegates from 10 Alabama schools. Through the conference, the students served as working diplomats, addressing such timely issues as vaccine hesitancy, food security, Arctic resources and serving in crisis committees based on ancient Ninevah, The Hunger Games books and the Fallout video game series. The students’ awards were based on their research, committee participation and country representation. Caity Beaman earned the Book Award for her essay on how the Model UN has impacted her life, Grace Campbell and John Newman each earned a Position Paper Award for their research and writing skills, Sophie Musselman and John Newman won two of the seven Best Delegate Awards (the highest individual speaking awards), and Jack Garrison won a Verbal Commendation Award.
