Baldwin County Breaks Ground On Jail Replacement
Baldwin County broke ground on a $65-million expansion to its jail in Bay Minette on January 4, WKRG reported. Plans, in response to the continued growth of Baldwin County, have been in the works for a while. When complete, the new tower, docket room and control room will increase the capacity of the jail from 650 to more than 900 city, state and federal inmates. Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack expects the facility to meet the county’s need for inmate housing for 15-20 years. As many as 600 workers are expected to be a part of the construction projects. It is expected to take at least four years to complete.
