Mobile Airport Authority Releases Plan to Move All Flights Downtown

The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) released its master plan for moving commercial passenger service to the Mobile Downtown Airport at Brookley Aeroplex on August 4, WKRG reported. The move will cost a total of about $403 million and could be done in five years. The 20-year plan calls for a new $160-million terminal at Brookley that would have eight jet bridge gates and a parking garage. The effort to make the move, pushed by Mayor Sandy Stimpson and overseen by MAA President Chris Curry, has been underway for several years. A feasibility study published in 2018 found that swapping commercial passenger service to Brookley was feasible and likely to have economic benefits. The Brookley site is closer to downtown, closer to potential customers coming from Baldwin County and has direct access to I-10 near its junction with I-65.
