Mobile Approves Work To Repair Bulkhead

The Mobile City Council has approved a $6.9-million contract for emergency repairs to the bulkhead along the waterfront in Cooper Riverside Park. Barricades have been up at the water’s edge since September 2022, when an underwater survey found defects and holes under the nearly 30-year-old bulkhead, WKRG reported. The funding comes from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act and is approved by Gov. Kay Ivey. This work will be the first of a two-phase project to help secure the waterfront and set the groundwork for future park upgrades and improvements, Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. It is also the location of the planned River Walk Plaza. Phase 1 is expected to be complete in early 2025.
