Mobile City Council Approves Fire Chief, Public Safety Leader

The Mobile City Council has unanimously approved Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s appointment of Johnny Morris, Jr. as the 17th fire chief of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD). Morris is a native Mobilian with more than three decades of service with MFRD. “As chief of staff to departing chief Jeremy Lami, Chief Morris has played an integral role in making MFRD one of the best fire departments in the nation,” Stimpson said. Morris has a goal to build a dynasty while continuing to expand MFRD firefighters’ role in the community beyond emergencies. Additionally, Rob Lasky was approved as the city’s executive director of public safety. After 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Lasky was a driving force in the establishment of the city’s first Office of Professional Responsibility. He also has a legal background and experience working with first responders in Mobile.
