Spanish Fort To Annex Longleaf

The Spanish Fort Planning Commission recently voted to forward a positive recommendation to the city council to annex new golf and residential development Longleaf, FOX10 News reported. The planned development has been in the works for more than a decade. It is to be built around an existing 18-hole, championship-caliber course. The county already approved the 1,650-acre parcel as a subdivision. The annexation of an adjacent piece of property on the south side of County Road 40 into Spanish Fort last year paved the way for this annexation bid. Though the landowner approached the city for the development to be annexed, the surrounding community is reportedly concerned about its size: 702 lots are to be developed just in the first phase. Next, the City Council will vote on whether to approve the annexation.
