USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital Adds James Maher

Dr. James E. Maher recently joined USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital in Mobile as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, bringing more than three decades of experience in high-risk obstetrics, academic medicine and physician leadership to the role. Maher was most recently at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he served as section chief and professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also served as director of obstetrical ultrasound and director of the regional perinatal center for the Augusta Perinatal Region with the Georgia Department of Public Health. Board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maher specializes in the care of women with high-risk pregnancies and has extensive expertise in advanced obstetrical ultrasound and fetal diagnosis. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and has maintained accreditation in detailed fetal anatomic ultrasound, fetal echocardiography and first-, second- and third-trimester obstetrical ultrasound. Maher earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee. He completed fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
