Safari & Vine Opens At Gulf Coast Zoo

The grand opening of Safari & Vine was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted in partnership with the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. On the grounds of the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Safari & Vine is owned and operated by Pam McLaurin-Lee and Chef Rich Lee, the team behind Portabella’s in Foley. Described as “a global cuisine experience,” Safari & Vine features a curated menu inspired by flavors and culinary traditions from around the world. Guests can enjoy everything from Peri-Peri Wings and ahi poke bowls to North African-spiced flatbreads, carnitas chilaquiles, chargrilled lamb lollipops and stuffed filet mignon. The restaurant offers weekend brunch with mimosa flights and a Bloody Mary bar and an extensive mocktail menu crafted with natural syrups and spices for guests who want a handcrafted beverage experience without alcohol. Unlike traditional zoo dining, Safari & Vine was designed to be a destination on its own. The restaurant is open to the public and does not require zoo admission to visit. The owners also plan to introduce live entertainment, themed nights, watch parties and additional community events to create an energetic and immersive dining atmosphere. Safari & Vine also places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, offering a dedicated vegetarian menu, gluten-free options and a research-backed kids menu developed with input from children’s focus groups to better understand what young diners want. Among the restaurant’s offerings is its signature burger, served three unique ways: traditional beef, black bean or locally sourced shark.
