Port Of Mobile Volume Remains Robust

MOBILE, Ala. — Calendar year-to-date 2022 through May container volumes remained robust at the Port of Mobile, posting 225,883 twenty-foot-equivalent units, an 11.6% gain over volumes handled during the same period last year. While there was a year-over-year dip of 6% in container volumes last month compared to May 2021, the port’s intermodal rail growth exceeded expectations with 208% growth compared to last May. Year-to-date 2022 intermodal rail volumes remained in triple digits, with 130% growth over the same period in 2021. Refrigerated cargoes in May also saw a 43% increase over May 2021. “The Port of Mobile is enjoying rapid pace growth, and while there are a lot of numbers here, the bottom line is that shippers are finding our gateway efficient and service oriented,” commented Alabama Port Authority director and CEO John Driscoll.
