Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Set For Tomorrow

Theodore-based nonprofit Feeding the Gulf Coast has announced the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive for May 13. The largest single-day effort for similar organizations, the event has a goal of collecting more than 100,000 pounds of food. Those wishing to participate are asked to place non-perishable food item donations in a bag outside their mailboxes in the morning for letter carriers to collect on their route. Last year’s Stamp Out Hunger helped Feeding the Gulf Coast distribute nearly 29 million meals to address the increase in need. Whether residents receive bags from their letter carriers or not, they can still participate by using any grocery bag to fill with donation items. Feeding the Gulf Coast’s most needed items include canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned and boxed meals, canned or dried beans/peas, peanut butter and jelly (plastic containers), pasta and rice, and cereal and breakfast items. Individuals should not donate items in glass containers or items that have been opened or homemade.
