Ground Broken On Region’s First Workforce Housing Development

A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for The Grove at Foley Beach, a privately funded project that has benefited from tax credits created to address growing housing demand in Alabama’s economic hotspots. The tax credits were the result of the Working for Alabama legislative package. The Grove is expected to generate nearly $26 million in economic impact, support approximately 225 jobs and produce an estimated $10 million in state and local tax revenue. It marks the first project of its kind in South Alabama and is the second in a statewide series of developments targeting economic hotspots throughout Alabama. In recent years, state leaders have re-envisioned Alabama’s approach to workforce development, recognizing that a lack of quality housing options can often be a barrier to new investment and smart growth. Incentivizing projects like The Grove at Foley Beach is a major component of the state leaders’ innovative approach to advancing Alabama’s economy. The total development cost is projected to be approximately $60 million, and upon completion, the project will consist of 108 two-bedroom and 72 three-bedroom apartments.
