Mobile Middle School Building To Be For Sale

Mae Eanes Middle School at 1901 Hurtel Street in Mobile closed in 2018 and has been derelict since. According to Call News, a rezoning effort may see it being sold, since it has thus far gone unleased. Now that the Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) has authorized the City of Mobile to make an application with the Mobile Planning Commission, the process is likely to open the property to be sold. MCPSS Superintendent Chresal Threadgill was unsure if the building will remain, adding, “It’s been vacant for quite some time, and it’s getting harder to maintain.” He expects the buyer to do “something positive for the community,” he said. One potential purchaser would build affordable homes.
