Commission Awards Contract For Cedar Point Pier Improvements

The Mobile County Commission has awarded an approximately $1-million contract to improve Cedar Point Pier to Gillis Construction, Inc. It includes the following: improved Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant pier access, including a new deck with a canopy cover between the office/bathroom trailers, an access ramp from the parking area and a walkway from the deck to the existing pier; new concrete parking pads, Causeway driveway turnouts and utility upgrades; and resiliency upgrades for the deteriorating shoreline. With more than 100,000 visits in 2024, Cedar Point Pier is a popular 24-hour fishing spot in southern Mobile County. No saltwater fishing license is required for Alabama residents to fish from it. The pier will be closed for safety for approximately four months. Moffatt & Nichol is providing engineering and construction management. Construction is funded in part through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act and the Mobile County Commission’s federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 allocation.
