Orange Beach High School Softball Team Wins Fifth State Title

The Orange Beach High School softball team has captured the Class 4A State Softball Championship, tying a state record with its fifth consecutive title. The defending national champions, ranked third in the nation, scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and never looked back to take the win 9 to 2 over the nationally ranked Curry Yellow Jackets. The Makos defeated five top 20 nationally ranked teams this year. This year’s championship run was led by the largest senior softball class in school history, all of whom are committed to playing at the next level: Daigle Wilson at Auburn University, K.G. Favors at the University of South Carolina, Kaitlyn Robinson at Louisiana Christian University and Justine Henderson at the University of Mobile. Offensively, the team was a powerhouse all season at the plate, launching 72 home runs, including 22 in a single extended weekend late in the year. In regional and championship games, the Makos outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 96-5.
