Saraland Receives Grant Funding, Looks To The Land Expansion

The City of Saraland is the latest recipient of a major grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). City leaders now hope to expand their sports complex with the award, WKRG News 5 reports. The recreation center and fields at the complex have been in use for more than a year. The $2.6-million grant will help develop the fenced-in area at the complex, but it’s undetermined exactly what will be built on the property. The money is coming from an EPA program dedicated to cleaning up contaminated and blighted properties. This property to be developed was used in the 1960s and 1970s for mining sand and clay. The City of Saraland and the EPA will work together to determine how the funds will be used.
