Spring Hill College Names Provost

MOBILE, Ala. — Spring Hill College in Mobile has named Dr. Rebecca Cantor its provost, effective July 1, AL.com reported. Cantor earned a PhD in English from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California; an MA in English from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles; and a BA in English Literature from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut. She has written two books and published several journal articles. Cantor comes to Spring Hill from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, and her experience includes serving as a department chair, professor of English and assistant provost. She has leadership experience in managing and maintaining the integrity of an institutional curriculum, while overseeing a portfolio of budget, communication and accreditation projects. As provost, she will serve as the chief academic officer responsible for all academic functions of the college in accordance with its Jesuit heritage and mission. Additionally, she will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and discipline-specific accreditation, as well as developing a culture of continuous program evaluation, innovation and development. Dr. Lisa Hager, who served as interim provost since September 2020, will serve as associate provost.
