Daphne Hires Veteran Fire Chief

Retired Mobile district chief LeAnn Tacon became Daphne’s new fire chief yesterday, GulfCoastNewsToday.com reports. Tacon will become the fifth person to oversee the Daphne Fire Department in about a year. She replaces Melvin Brown, a former Birmingham battalion chief, who was hired in June and resigned in December 2020. Brown had been recently preceded by longtime chief James “Bo” White, and there have been two interim chiefs. Tacon served in the Mobile Fire Department for 33 years before retiring in April 2020. She was the department’s first woman firefighter, captain and chief, and has supervised the Mobile Emergency Medical Services Divisions Administration Offices.
