Foley To Build Fourth Fire Station

A new fire station is to be built on a site on East Fern Avenue to serve northern Foley, the City of Foley announced. As the city’s fourth fire station, it will extend protection to the northern side of the city. Fire Chief Joey Darby said the property parcel on East Fern Avenue with access to both Highway 59 and the Foley Beach Express has been donated to the city. He added that the city will now send out requests for proposals asking companies to submit ideas for the design of the five-acre site. Darby said that if the submitted designs work with the city’s budget, current plans call for Foley to design the station this year and begin construction next year. Since only part of the property will be used for the fire station, Riviera Utilities is considering using the remaining portion for a well and water storage facility.
