Foley Receives State Grant For Wolf Creek Park Improvements

A state grant will allow Foley to improve the city’s Wolf Creek Park with an elevated boardwalk and other amenities under an award announced by Gov. Kay Ivey. The grant of $168,620 was one of six announced by the governor through the federal Recreational Trails Program. The total for all six grants is approximately $1.2 million, which will be used to build or improve recreational trails around the state. Foley grant money will build a 115-ft elevated boardwalk, an observation tower and a parking area at the Wolf Creek Park. The boardwalk and parking area will be built in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The city will also install additional signs at the park. Foley will provide $40,905 in local matching funds for the project. Wolf Creek Park is on a 20-acre site on Hance Road south of County Road 20. The park includes a canoe and kayak launch, fishing pier, picnic tables and small pavilion. The Recreational Trails Program is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and is administered in the state by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
