HFHSWA Receives $250,000 Disaster Resilience Grant

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama (HFHSWA) has announced receipt of a $250,000 disaster resilience grant from Verizon. HFHSWA is one of 11 local Habitat for Humanity affiliates awarded grant funding through Verizon’s Disaster Resilience initiative. The grant is to aid the nonprofit in helping residents repair storm-damaged homes and incorporate Fortified building techniques, which it says can dramatically reduce losses during major storms. “Along with the home building program that Habitat for Humanity is known for, we also assist qualified homeowners with critical home repairs and new roofs,” said HFHSWA Executive Director Courtney Rouse-Heinz. “Recovery after a major storm can be slow. This grant will help with better preparedness and hopefully expedite repairs.”
